Babbage’s Bistro & Bar – an Exciting Catering Opportunity at Mountain View
Mountain View Innovation Centre – located just outside Ramsey on the old Island Film Studios Site, has seen a multi-million-pound investment to develop it as a mixed-use community and business resource to the highest levels of social, environmental and technical excellence. Businesses already located at Mountain View include Media, IT, Home Care, Executive PA Services, Accountancy, Beauty Salon, Therapy Services, Energy Management and Pre-School childcare (Grasshoppers Nursery) – with approximately 60 people employed on site, and an increasing number of business visitors daily. With construction also underway to provide additional office accommodation for up to 15 SME’s, the site continues to grow and develop this thriving business community.
We also offer a Mountain View Membership scheme for those who wish to have access to Mountain View facilities on an informal basis and for collaborative working and these members visit the site on a more casual basis – sometimes with their customers and contacts. All Mountain View Members (and staff employed on site) have access to free hot beverages using kitchenette facilities, but there is scope to cater to increasing numbers of other customers who wish to use the facilities throughout the day.
A wide range of corporate, family, charity and community events enjoy the venues, the ample and easy vehicle parking, EV charging facilities and, of course, the beautiful landscape, sculptures, nature walks and gardens all set in 25 acres of stunning scenery. (We do not currently solicit wedding business and do not intend to do so). Upcoming events so far for 2023 include the TT Press Launch, Ramsey Motorcycle Show, Manx Classic Car AGM, private birthday celebrations and various cycling events in addition to regular provision of catering for training and meeting room customers.
Babbage’s Bistro at Mountain View is fully-licensed and has a well-equipped, newly-modernised commercial kitchen, with a variety of venue spaces for events from 40 – 1300 people. Although run as a separate business entity to Mountain View, Babbage’s Bistro is very much a key element of the Mountain View site and as such any incumbent should be prepared to run it as an integrated facility within the site, working in the best mutual interests of the Bistro and the site, as a whole.
Expressions of interest are invited for the operation of the catering and bar facilities during an initial period ending 30th June 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to take on an established facility which has built a good reputation, a solid and thriving customer base, is generating meaningful income and has considerable scope for further development and growth.
Whilst there is room for discussion and flexibility, the following provisions must be included:
- On-site Café operating min 11.00 – 14.00 on working days providing hot and cold food, and beverages to employees, members and visitors including IOM Bank Holidays.
- Provision of lunch & tea options for children attending Grasshoppers Nursery.
- Catering for on-site events and bookings.
- Catering for meetings and staff functions.
- Delivery of at least 12 events per annum. These may include entertainment events, themed meals, etc.
- Operation of the Babbage’s Alcohol License.
- Capacity to fulfil and independently manage all staffing and statutory requirements of the catering and bar operations.
There is also an expectation that a successful applicant will seek to develop and expand on the already established provisions - for which we will provide support and guidance.
The commercial agreement for the operation of the catering and bar facilities at Mountain View is based on a very attractive revenue-share agreement which includes provision of premises, utilities and equipment.
